BIMcollab Twin | BIMcollab and Madaster create easy insight in use of materials in building files
BIMcollab and Madaster have simplified the exchange of information about materials used in buildings. The companies have created a link between their platforms and the building records of clients. In a single operation, BIM models on the BIMcollab Twin platform can now be transferred to the Madaster systems. This keeps all data of a building project continuously synchronized, including aspect models.
BIMcollab Twin is an online platform where project developers, property owners, governments and other parties in the construction industry always have an unambiguous and structured insight into their building file, including all data from the BIM model. Building files in BIMcollab Twin can be complemented with 2D drawings, reports, documentation and communication, so all building information can be found and made available in one place. Materials can also be displayed and colored in BIMcollab Twin’s online 3D viewer, making external BIM viewers unnecessary.
Cadaster for materials
Madaster registers materials and buildings, like subdivision and land ownership, with the Land Registry and Mapping Agency. This way, materials become traceable and remain infinitely available. Madaster allows anyone in a building project to create a web-based materials passport of their building(s). A materials passport contains a lot of information about the quality, origin and location of materials and provides insight into the circularity and financial (residual) value of a building.
Passport per housing unit
The new link between BIMcollab Twin and Madaster offers customers several clear advantages. Madaster users now also have easy access to data that is not recorded in a BIM model, but does appear in reporting, documentation or communication, because Twin works with uniform building files. In addition, BIMcollab Twin’s 3D viewer can also directly show the location of a material in the building.
Another advantage of the fact that BIMcollab Twin works with structured building files is that all the building information can also be grouped per individual dwelling. This structure and the new link make it possible to generate reports and passports per living unit in Madaster.
Two platforms, one task
With the link between the Twin platform and the Madaster database, it is now very easy for property owners to share a building file in Madaster. In a single operation, BIM models from the BIMcollab Twin platform can now be added to Madaster’s database. Building owners no longer have to upload or manage IFC files in their (online) building file and in Madaster. All information about materials, including quantities, that appears in the building model in BIMcollab Twin is now also transferred to Madaster, so this information can be enriched with qualitative data.
Transition to a circular building sector
The collaboration between BIMcollab and Madaster fits in with the transition to a circular economy that also the construction sector is facing. The circular economy requires not only more and higher quality reuse of materials, products and elements, but also a different way of proposing, designing and implementing construction projects. Digitalization of the built environment is necessary to make this possible, and this new collaboration between BIMcollab and Madaster contributes to that.
